About Island A Cappella

PEI'S Barbershop Women's Chorus!

We began as The Abegweit Chimes in 1982 and some of its founding members still sing with us today. In 2014 the chorus rebranded itself as Island A Cappella and has earned a reputation as a well-known and respected entertainment organization with a one-of-a-kind sound that has entertained audiences across the province.

Our chorus is a diverse and multi-generational group of fun-loving, energetic women. We LOVE to sing and perform, whether it is at festivals and events across the Island, at local manors, churches, community functions, fundraisers, or just at our weekly rehearsals. We also have a number of quartets made up of chorus members who perform as a part of chorus functions as well as on their own.

And yes, we sing competitively too, as a part of our membership with Harmony, Inc.!

Our  chorus is a registered non-profit organization and a chapter within the "Area 1" of Harmony, Inc., an international, non-profit organization created to empower all women through education, friendship and – of course – a cappella singing in the barbershop style!

If you enjoy singing four-part harmony and
would like to join us, please contact us now!

Come experience the joy of singing a cappella harmony – and let your spirit soar.

Island A Cappella is a Prince Edward Island women’s chorus that sings four-part a cappella music (without instrumental accompaniment) in the barbershop harmony style. We love to perform for different types of audiences and each June we compete at our regional competition, usually in Sackville, New Brunswick.

If you love to sing in harmony and always wanted to improve your vocal skills and have fun, Island A Cappella may be the perfect organization for you.

Island A Cappella rehearses once a week throughout the fall and winter. A regular rehearsal night consists of gentle physical warm-ups, vocal technique warm-up, polishing our existing repertoire and learning new music. Rehearsal nights are also used for special teaching and coaching activities, promotion of quartetting, and support/training of new members. Guests are always welcome.

Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings, September through June, at 7 p.m. in the Lecture Theatre at the Charlottetown Rural High School. Note that locations, health regulations, and times may vary, before attending and for more information please, contact us.
