About Us

Island A Cappella started out as The Abegweit Chimes, in 1982.  The chorus is a registered non-profit organization and a chapter of Harmony, Inc., a vibrant international singing organization of women.  Members of Harmony are dedicated to the performance and promotion of four-part a cappella harmony in the barbershop style.  The celebration of friendship, personal growth and development through education, and the practice of democratic principles are keys to the success of this organization.

The members of Island A Cappella are women who value singing as an important part of their lives and are committed to developing their vocal skills. Island A Cappella competes in an annual regional competition and in 2006 and 2007, placed first. The chorus has twice been involved on the international level and is well-known across the Island for its smooth harmonies.

The chorus performs at community functions, fundraisers, conventions, nursing homes and local churches.  We are community-minded through our support of benefit efforts whenever possible.
